Get the Scoop! New Balance 1224 859 845 840

August 29, 2008 16:28 by JCahill

Out with the old, in with the New Balance!

They haven't been in stores long but our runners are already raving about the new running models 1224 and 859, replacing two of last year's favorites 1223 and 858.
The improvements kick up the pace by incorporating a heightened heal stability without adding weight, mucho midfoot support and extreme cushioning from heel-to-toe.
It may sound cliché but if you liked the old you'll love the new! You don't have to take our word for it. Check out the positive reviews in the September issue of Runner's World.

Wanna slow down your pace?
Take a walk in the new 845. Updated from the 844, the improvements on this New Balance walking favorite make your brisk morning strolls a breeze.
Extraordinary comfort, exceptional support and superb stability. I know you love your 844's but the 845 gives you a good reason to take'em off and kick that "they're just not as comfortable as they were when I first got them" feeling to the curb!  If you've had your everyday shoes for over 6 months you DO need a new pair!

Are you one to take your fitness to the extreme?
Trounce intimidating terrain in the New Balance 840 trail running model. Join Nancy K., wear tester for Fitness magazine, in loving its versatility.  She writes, "The 840's transitioned really well from dirt and grass to rockier trails and were amazingly lightweight." Incorporating a grooved, sticky rubber outsole, the 840 grips the trail and keeps your foot, no matter what its shape, steady on loose twigs and gravel in the comfort of a blister-proof lining and super-cushioned heel.

Working on a "New You" with the help of New Balance? Nobody has to know you're counting with the new Via Motion Pedometer. Put it in your pocket, clip it to a bag or belt, or drop it in your purse. Find out how much exercise you get in a day of work, errands, and other activities.  Health magazine dares you to "amp up your walking workout" with the automatic exercise timer on the NB 50026. Some of the fantastic features: ability to measure step, distance and calories; resets automatically to track day-by-day progress; includes a consumer replaceable battery.

Spreading the LOVE in Beijing~New Balance at the 2008 Olympics

August 18, 2008 15:15 by JCahill

 "CITIUS, ALTIUS, FORTIUS"
  Faster       Higher       Stronger
The sense of the motto is that being first is not necessarily a priority, but that giving one's best and striving for personal excellence is a worthwhile goal. To achieve "New Balance."

What better place is there to showcase ultimate athletics with millions of spectators cheering you on?
Check out the 40 Team NB members among the top athletes in the world that surpassed the average and achieved their goals of making it to this year's Olympic Games.
http://www.newbalance.com/events/teamnb.php/#/beijing/
It's an honor just to get that far but some have even taken the spotlight to a photo finish.
Congratulations are in order for Juri Jaanson and Tonu Endrekson, from the Estonian Team NB, taking silver in men's double sculls rowing just 0.05 seconds ahead of Great Britain.
http://en.beijing2008.cn/news/sports/headlines/rowing/n214550265.shtml

NB team members yet to compete include:
Adrian Blincoe (Men's 5000m Heat on 8/20)
Megan Metcalfe (Women's 5000m Heat on 8/19) FYI Megan loves the NB running 754 model. The most recent update to this model is the 757.

The games have come a long way since the first official events were held.  In 1896 there was no event that the Greek hosts wanted to win more than the 40,000m marathon race. On April 10th,
Spyridon Louis ran straight to the gold medal in shoes that were donated to him by his fellow villagers, leaving his competitors behind with a 7 minute lead.

Today we have New Balance. When asked how it feels to be part of the NB team, many team members responded, "It's great to be among the elite, both athletes and staff." Other responses included, "Knowing you have such invaluable support is everything. Being a team NB athlete feels like being part of a very close knit unit."  A close knit unit...or one may even say a village.

Good luck to all our NB team members and Team USA!

Fan of the 826? You're in good company! The 826 is a favorite of US Olympian
Josh McAdams.
Have any other favorites? Setting any records of your own? Leave a comment.   We'd love to hear your success stories.

Brown's: Get to know us... and try not to Love the way we fit!

"Feet First" Mentality
"Grade A" Customer Service

I asked staff from our various locations how they would describe Brown's in one to three words and the above is some of what I heard.  This all sounded very familiar to me, and I racked my brain to figure out where I'd heard these words and phrases before. Eureka! I had it! All were matched with feedback we'd received from customers, either directly spoken, e-mailed or hand written and received "Pony Express".  Through the past few months we've covered some of what we carry (product information) and some of what we do (charity participation) but who are we?  I just want to take a few paragraphs to tell you who we are, where we came from and what we're all about.

In today's trend of self-service retail and sub-par customer care, companies are looking for ways to stand out. You see a lot of price-sensitive advertising and pretty colors but what good is a cheap, "bling-y" shoe if it causes some not so "bling-y" bunions? Brown's has chosen a more challenging direction in which to stand out. As a family business, our focus and the roots of our character are deeply embedded in "customer service" that requires energetic commitment, extensive training, continuing education and a sincere desire to deliver the appropriate product to satisfied customers.  In 1950, Brown's Family Shoe Store opened with service as its focus and for over fifty years, we've maintained that same focus unaltered.  Whether you shop through our brick and mortar storesBrownsCatalog.com or Brown's Catalog, you'll be able to set us apart from the "others" by experiencing the heart of our personalized, professional service through our staff.

How do we know so much? Easy answer. On top of our extensive and continuous training, most of us have been here for awhile.  Eight years ago, when I started with Brown's, Krista Barnhart fit me in my first pair of New Balance, and uh oh! potato shoe, I needed a size larger than I had been wearing. Today if I needed fitting help, I could go back to the same associate because Krista is still here, over ten years total, and is now a store manager and Certified Pedorthist.  I asked Donna Boland, also one of our on-staff CPed's, what got her interested in the more technical side of fitting shoes.  She said, "I was in the medical profession before coming to Brown's and it just seemed the logical step.  So when Randy Brown approached me with the question of interest I said, "Definitely!" Any chance you can get to help others become more mobile and free of pain gives you a good feeling inside."

"I enjoy working in an ever-changing, challenging environment of a yesterday, today and tomorrow business that seldom has me doing the same thing every day.  I also enjoy working with my AMAZING staff," said Kelli Harrison, Catalog and Internet Manager, when I asked what's kept her around for over 13 years.  13 years! Not too many businesses can bring this much experience to the table.

This has just been some of who we are and what we do. To really get to know Brown's, you need to get to know THE "Brown's". Please be our guest in meeting the family involved in Brown's Enterprises by checking out the one-on-four interview with Shoe Retailing Today writer Nancy Hultquist.  National Shoe Retailers Association Shoe Retailing Today article (1.06 mb)

Oops! Almost forgot! Two other things I wanted to mention.  On top of our knowledgeable staff here to answer your questions and get you in the right fit, we also have two customer-friendly programs: Brownie Points and Laces for the Life of your Shoes.  Earn Brownie Points with every purchase and work your way toward 50% off a pair of shoes.  Receive Free Laces for the Life of your shoes purchased with us. Did your dog get ahold of your laces? Give us a call and we'll send some out.

Don't just take our word for it! If you've already experienced our service, please let us know how we did and leave a comment!
