I asked staff from our various locations how they would describe Brown's in one to three words and the above is some of what I heard.  This all sounded very familiar to me, and I racked my brain to figure out where I'd heard these words and phrases before. Eureka! I had it! All were matched with feedback we'd received from customers, either directly spoken, e-mailed or hand written and received "Pony Express".  Through the past few months we've covered some of what we carry (product information) and some of what we do (charity participation) but who are we?  I just want to take a few paragraphs to tell you who we are, where we came from and what we're all about.

In today's trend of self-service retail and sub-par customer care, companies are looking for ways to stand out. You see a lot of price-sensitive advertising and pretty colors but what good is a cheap, "bling-y" shoe if it causes some not so "bling-y" bunions? Brown's has chosen a more challenging direction in which to stand out. As a family business, our focus and the roots of our character are deeply embedded in "customer service" that requires energetic commitment, extensive training, continuing education and a sincere desire to deliver the appropriate product to satisfied customers.  In 1950, Brown's Family Shoe Store opened with service as its focus and for over fifty years, we've maintained that same focus unaltered.  Whether you shop through our brick and mortar storesBrownsCatalog.com or Brown's Catalog, you'll be able to set us apart from the "others" by experiencing the heart of our personalized, professional service through our staff.

How do we know so much? Easy answer. On top of our extensive and continuous training, most of us have been here for awhile.  Eight years ago, when I started with Brown's, Krista Barnhart fit me in my first pair of New Balance, and uh oh! potato shoe, I needed a size larger than I had been wearing. Today if I needed fitting help, I could go back to the same associate because Krista is still here, over ten years total, and is now a store manager and Certified Pedorthist.  I asked Donna Boland, also one of our on-staff CPed's, what got her interested in the more technical side of fitting shoes.  She said, "I was in the medical profession before coming to Brown's and it just seemed the logical step.  So when Randy Brown approached me with the question of interest I said, "Definitely!" Any chance you can get to help others become more mobile and free of pain gives you a good feeling inside."

"I enjoy working in an ever-changing, challenging environment of a yesterday, today and tomorrow business that seldom has me doing the same thing every day.  I also enjoy working with my AMAZING staff," said Kelli Harrison, Catalog and Internet Manager, when I asked what's kept her around for over 13 years.  13 years! Not too many businesses can bring this much experience to the table.

This has just been some of who we are and what we do. To really get to know Brown's, you need to get to know THE "Brown's". Please be our guest in meeting the family involved in Brown's Enterprises by checking out the one-on-four interview with Shoe Retailing Today writer Nancy Hultquist.  National Shoe Retailers Association Shoe Retailing Today article (1.06 mb)

Oops! Almost forgot! Two other things I wanted to mention.  On top of our knowledgeable staff here to answer your questions and get you in the right fit, we also have two customer-friendly programs: Brownie Points and Laces for the Life of your Shoes.  Earn Brownie Points with every purchase and work your way toward 50% off a pair of shoes.  Receive Free Laces for the Life of your shoes purchased with us. Did your dog get ahold of your laces? Give us a call and we'll send some out.

Don't just take our word for it! If you've already experienced our service, please let us know how we did and leave a comment!
